You’d be forgiven for thinking that our faces were the only parts of our body with skin. They get so much attention, products and love, the rest of our limbs are like the poor, drier cousins. But, we’re here to change that. Here’s how to share the beauty love and look after the rest of your body so it too can be as glowing as your face.
Hands:
Our hands have taken a beating over the last couple of years thanks to excessive washing and drying hand sanitizer – but now we start damage control. Give them a mini manicure starting with a gentle exfoliation, followed by a good slathering and massage using a nourishing hand cream (our favourites include Urban Apothecary Coconut Grove Hand and Body Lotion, $49.95 and Lollia Field and Flowers Mini Hand Cream, $16.95). If your hands need extra TLC and are cracked or calloused, up the ante with Badger Balm Hardworking Hands Balm, $23.95 which is specifically formulated with ingredients to soothe rough hands. And finally, finish off your mani with a cuticle treatment like these from Blossom to soften and moisturise the cuticles and prevent them from cracking or peeling.
Feet:
Remember them? They’re the things that get you around each day, yet we forget about them the second they slip into shoes. Now’s the time to love them back a little. First, give them a long soak in water. If you have epsom salts, throw them in too for extra soothing. Once out, treat cracked or rough heels with a thick skin cream like Noosa Basics Cocoa Butter, $31.95 or Badger Balm Foot Balm, $14.95, then massage weary feet with a nourishing cream like this Yet to be written Cream, $39.95, and pop a pair of cotton socks on before you go to bed for extra smoothness in the morning.
Body:
Bathe: Taking a bath is not only good for the soul, it’s also good for the body. Adding a salt soak like Tokyo Milk Dead Sexy Salt Soak, $25 will help to purify the skin and de-stress the mind all in one go. Or, add a couple drops of your favourite body oil (we love Breathe Body Oil by Lollia, $85) for a sweet-smelling bath that coats your body in moisture at the same time.
Exfoliate: Just like your face, exfoliation is one of the best things you can do for your (body) skin. Exfoliating once a week with a scrub will slough off the dead, dry skin cells and make way for the newer, softer, glowier skin to show.
Moisturise: We know it’s another step in your routine, but it won’t hurt a bit - promise. If you start incorporating a body cream or oil like Infinite She Inspired Hydrating Body Lotion, $59.95 or Ingredients Body Oil, $39, into your shower ritual, it'll keep your limbs soft, smooth and hydrated (plus, they’ll smell nice too - bonus!). The best time to moisturise is when your skin is slightly damp from the shower, it will help draw in and hold the moisture into your skin.
