Even though it felt like summer was two minutes ago, the bare trees and chill in the air tells us that we are definitely in the throes of Autumn. As you start switching your skincare routine and reaching for thicker formulations that offer more hydration, it’s also time to rotate out your summer scents (all those fresh citrusy types) and switch in ones that speak to the season. Don’t have a trans seasonal personal scent wardrobe? Let us help you with that.
Autumn notes: If summer is all about the fresh, light scents with watery bases and citrus notes, in autumn we can start moving into some of the bolder notes. Earthy, woody and resin bases will emanate warmth, whereas things like vetiver, patchouli and vanilla will add depth. If citrus is still your thing, consider layering it with musk or spicy or opting for creamier versions like mandarin or a citrus gourmand.
And now, let’s find your scent!
Demeter Fragrance Library Log Cabin, $32.95: You might not be able to escape to your own Montana, but you can smell like you belong there. This scent has two different types of cedar notes (from Texas and Virginia) plus Oak Moss for a green feel. It’s both woody and fresh and exactly how you’d imagine a log cabin to be.
Tokyo Milk Dark Poison Ivy EDP, $89: This is an ode to nature with a dark twist: pretty and sexy at the same time. Notes of bergamot (a citrus) are laced with rose here, which offers the pretty, but it’s the orris (iris) root that makes it really interesting, creating a powdery, almost suede-like base.
Infinite She Vibrant EDP, $79: While one of the main notes here is Japanese Yuzu which is of course a zesty citrus, the addition of vetiver (a green, more earthy note) turns it into a more crisp, fresh scent that is definitely vibrant (as advertised!)
Tokyo Milk Savage Belle EDP, $79: This is quite possibly the most perfect autumn blend: a spicy floral citrus that hits on all the change-of-season feels. The notes are unusual – warm ginger, charcoal, bergamot and wisteria, but when wrapped together they create a mysterious and beautiful scent unlike any other.
The Perfume Oil Company Gypsy Perfume Oil, $34.95: A killer dupe for Byredo’s iconic Gypsy Water, this long lasting perfume oil blends subtle bergamot and lemon notes with the warmth of incense, orris, amber and sandalwood, and throws in vanilla to offer a creamy sweetness to all the heavier earthy tones.
