Here at MU Australia, we pride ourselves on scouring the planet for the most unique finds to bring to you. And this year, we’re proud to add two Aussie fragrance brands to the stable who are doing scent differently. Meet Odesse and Solid State.
Meet Odesse.
Hailing from Melbourne (the unofficial scent capital of Oz), Odesse was created by four people with the goal to reduce the environmental damage that is caused by the beauty industry. One of their big targets was was water wastage — which is huge in the manufacturing process, but it’s also a huge part of what (alot) of beauty products are made of — sometimes up to 95%!
They also (naturally) take into account packaging waste and overuse of plastics, so when creating their offering they curated two formulations that were the most environmentally kind: a wax-based solid perfume and an Extrait de Parfum, which has the highest concentration of perfume oils within the category (between 20-40%).
All of this sounds expensive, right? But remarkably, these natural fragrances, using native Australian ingredients come in at a very wallet-friendly price. With an ethos of being better for the planet and the person, Odesse uses no cheap fillers but it also doesn’t use unnecessary markups; instead offering a designer-quality product in stunning vessels at a price that means you can own more than one — even in a recession.

Meet Solid State.
The Solid State story begins in 2015, where the founders, who were already working in the beauty industry, had become disenchanted with overpriced (and frankly, underperforming) products in the category. That is, until they discovered solid grooming products, and the A-ha! moment followed. They could create solid, alcohol-free fragrance products that would deliver long-lasting results — and they could lead the market in it.
Fast-forward 10 years and the brand continues to lead the way with their solid colognes, but they’ve also expanded into Extrait de Parfum too (a highly-concentrated, low alcohol fragrance variant). Aside from being trailblazers, their other point of difference is that they are all made in Australia in factories that meet the highest standards for manufacturing practices.
