February 14. Whether it’s a day you count down to, a day you dread, or a day you often forget, it’s hard to ignore all the love hearts in the eyes (and in the air) in the lead up to Valentine's Day. But this year, we’re calling it: it’s time to give yourself some love on the day of love. Because no one deserves more celebrating than you. And, as we all know, there’s no better way to celebrate than with a deliciously indulgent pamper session for one. So, here’s how to do just that.
Take a good, long soak - Turn your bath time into a self care ritual. Put on some music, light a good candle (we love Urban Apothecary’s Bay Berry; run the hot water and splash in a decadent Bath Oil. Heck, why not go all our and pour yourself a wine too? Aside from a soak being the ultimate “you time”, it’ll relax you, soothe your muscles and leave your skin soft and supple, which brings us to...
Get scrubbing - Sure, it’s not the sexiest term in the world, but it will leave you feeling sexy. Trust us. Exfoliation (or body scrub) is the fastest way to glowing skin. It uses fine particles of sugar, coffee (or sometimes other ingredients like charcoal) to gently slough off the dead skin cells to reveal new, glowing ones underneath. Oh, and this isn’t just a Valentine’s special either - it should be a once (or twice!) a week ritual. After soaking in the tub for five or so minutes, take your scrub (we love this Fig + Black Currant one), and apply in gentle circular motions all over your body, paying extra attention to rough areas. Rinse off to reveal your new skin and you’re good to go.
Lotion up - Post shower (or bath) is the perfect time to moisturise your whole body because your pores are already open from the heat, meaning they’re more susceptible to product and are able to lock moisture in. Post bath pat down your body with a towel but leave it ever-so-slightly damp as this will help the lotion absorb into your skin better. Then, take your Coconut Grove Lotion, and again apply in circular motions all over the body. If your skin is particularly dry, look for ingredients like shea butter that will help nourish and provide extra hydration. Finish by massaging a good quality hand cream into your mitts, focussing also on the cuticle area which often gets overlooked.
Add a little colour Whether you’ve got a hot date with the girls, your partner or the TV (no judgement!) slicking on a hint of colour will make you feel just a little bit fancy. We love a tinted lip balm which will not only hydrate your lips but also give them a pretty little pep up.
Spritz on a scent No, it’s not OTT to spray on your favourite perfume, even if the only one who’ll enjoy it is your cat. In fact, we fully endorse finding a new favourite scent for the occasion, because, why the heck not? So, what do you want to be today? Dead sexy? The choice, this Valentines, is yours.
